I read this today in a magazine. It really made me think. I thought I'd share.
A little boy carefully walked along a crowded beach, where starfish by the hundreds lay there within his reach. They washed up with each wave, far as the eye could see, and each would surely die if they were not set free. So one by one he rescued them, then heard a stranger call, "It won't make a difference, you can't save them all."
But as he tossed another back toward the oceans setting sun, he said with deep compassion, "I made a difference to that one!"
How true is this? Doing something helpful or nice for someone surely makes a difference to that person!!!

Absolutely true! My mom used to teach at an "At Risk" HS in NY. Other teachers would look at her like she was nuts when they saw her prepping and researching activities to do with the children in her class. One even said "I don't know why you bother. I write the assignment up on the board, and then read my paper. If they do it fine, if not Oh well. I still get my check. They are all going to be low lives anyway."
My mom's response to him was "You have to give it your all. BEcause you never know, you can be making a difference in the life of one child. If I do that, then I made a difference"
People are easy to throw thier hands up and do nothing.
